Hi, I’m Anand. Online and behind the lens, most people know me as BombayMalayali.
My story is a bit of a map with many pins. I was born in Kerala, grew up in Oman, spent nearly fourteen years in Mumbai, and now call Amsterdam home. My love for Mumbai’s organised chaos, paired with the pull of my Kerala roots, is how the name BombayMalayali came to life. (Malayali, in case you’re wondering, is what we call people from Kerala.) It’s a reminder of where I come from, no matter which part of the world I’m standing in.
By qualification I’m a Chartered Accountant, so I do know exactly what my camera gear cost. I just can’t explain why I keep adding to it. Outside the ledger, I’ve always been the one pointing a camera at things: morning light through mist, cities from above.
That has taken me across 25 countries. When ground level doesn’t do a place justice, I take to the air. I’m a certified drone pilot, qualified under EASA, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, with both the A1/A3 and A2 certificates. My photographs have made it from my hard drive to exhibitions, on screens and in galleries, in Times Square in New York, Tokyo, Rome, Dubai and Bangalore.
